20180207 Centurion AcademyWe always love it when our clients return again and again to join us for river rafting and/or abseiling fun.

So it was a great pleasure to welcome the new group of 2nd year students from the Centurion Academy Hospitality Management campus who visit us each year.

River rafting like other outdoor activites is subject to the weather playing nice. It poured with rain all night and was still miserable and drizzly early this morning. Frantic Whatsapp messages between myself, the client, the river guides and Lucia, who was catering for the students, went backwards and forwards from 6am. Bless, one of our river guides, went down to the river to determine if it was going to be safe to raft. Whew! Water was well below the jetty and the rain had stopped.

We all breathed a sigh of relief. The truck was brought down, the boats loaded and tied down and then time for coffee and biscuits for the guides and me while we waited for the clients.

The weather got better and better. Indemnity forms were signed, the group kitted up with jackets and helmets and off we went to Pelindaba nature reserve about 10 minutes away.

The rain that had fallen overnight in Randburg and Sandton had made its way to the launch site and was pouring over the 2 weirs guaranteeing a white water rafting trip filled with excitement. Mark our lead guide for the trip did his safety talk filling the students with a healthy trepidation mixed with a longing to get going and proving their paddling skills to one another.

Being the mother hen that I am, I watched them all safely navigate the 2 weirs and left them in the care of Mark and Bless who both have many years guiding experience.

After the weirs and navigating past Mr Full Stop Rock the river flows down between the cliffs where there is beautiful bird life to enjoy.

Halfway down they enjoy a juice break and then a few more rapids and then the famous 4 metre rock jump for the brave.

The trip ends in front of our on site restaurant, The Beach House. A hose down and/or a quick shower and change of clothes and then it was time for lunch.

A good time was had by all.
